USL delegation meets leading FAI officials in Dublin   02/05/2017

Members of the Ulster Senior League executive were at FAI headquarters in Abbotstown on Tuesday to meet with senior FAI officials.

The USL delegation met with the FAI CEO John Delaney and the FAI Director of Competitions Fran Gavin to discuss the development and the possible expansion of intermediate football in Donegal.

Secretary Niall Callaghan, Treasurer Donal Coyle, Registrar Jason Gibson and PRO Chris McNulty represented the USL.

The meeting was timed to coincide with the end of the Ulster Senior League season, with the 2016/17 campaign drawing to a close this month.

USL PRO Chris McNulty gave a presentation to the FAI representatives, outlining a brief history of the League and its various aims and objectives going forward.

A wide-ranging discussion took place in the hour-long meeting, held in the FAI Boardroom.

Mr Delaney, who complimented the extensive presentation, conveyed the FAI's commitment to strengthening intermediate football in Donegal over the coming years.

Mr Gavin expressed his delight at the ongoing participation of Derry City and Finn Harps in the USL and the senior clubs' dedication to the promotion of intermediate football.

"We would like to thank the FAI for their time and for their ongoing work in the development of our League," USL secretary Niall Callaghan said.

"We have an obligation to our clubs to provide them with the best possible platform and a high quality League and, with the continued backing of the FAI, we will be able to do this into the future.

"We had a very productive meeting in Abbotstown with Mr Delaney and Mr Gavin, and look forward to working with them on developing, improving and expanding intermediate football in Donegal."
