USL Chairman extends good wishes to Finn Harps and Derry City
The Chairman of the Ulster Senior League, Johnny McCafferty, has extended best wishes to Finn Harps and Derry City on the eve of the new League of Ireland season.
On Friday night, Finn Harps welcome Cork City to Finn Park, while Derry City are away to Bohemians at Dalymount Park.
Both clubs have reserve teams in the Ulster Senior League and many of the players who will be in senior action this season have come through the ranks of the USL.
“It’s brilliant that we have two Premier Division teams on our doorstep here and everyone in the Ulster Senior League wants to wish both clubs all the best for the 2017 season,” Mr McCafferty said.
“We in the Ulster Senior League are delighted that the two clubs are now playing in the legaue and they have both been great additions. It is brilliant to watch the number of players who have played in the USL go on to play senior football with Finn Harps and Derry City.
“Ollie Horgan and Kenny Shiels, the two senior managers, are good supporters of the USL, and we extend good luck to both for the season ahead.
“Finn Harps did very well to stay up last season and hopefully will push on this season, while Derry have Europa League football to look forward to.
“It would be great to see the north-west soccer public get out and support the local teams.”
Both clubs will be in USL action on Sunday. Finn Harps Reserves face Swilly Rovers at Swilly Park, while Derry City travel to Triagh-A-Locha to take on Fanad United.
